Please join us in congratulating Jessica Plew, Agustin Flores, and Taylor Gilmore as our 2022 ¡MIRA! Scholars

¡MIRA! Scholars is one of the many opportunities we offer undergraduate students. In the Scholars program, students are paid to conduct research in a ¡MIRA! lab under the mentorship of a ¡MIRA! professor. No experience is necessary. Come join us! Stay on the lookout for the next Scholars application call.

Jessica Plew will be a Research Assistant in Dr. Gabriel Montaño's lab where she will study silica-based encapsulation of deep-sea cell samples. This has real-world applications in areas such as in vitro fertilization. Jessica is excited to get lab experience, particularly the chance to work with a team of scientists on a subject she is really interested in and could make a real difference in the world.

Agustin Flores will be a Research Assistant in Dr. Jennifer Martinez's lab where he will study nanomedicine carriers. His research will focus on finding a model that will enable an understanding of the self-assembly rules for protein-based polymers at the nanoscale. Agustin is a transfer student and joins us with some really great research experience. He is happy to join ¡MIRA!, become a part of our family, and work towards changing the face of materials science.

Taylor Gilmore will be supported by the Scholars program in the continuation of her work on a research project with Dr. Robert Kellar focused on rhamnolipid impregnated biomaterials in wound healing. Taylor is currently a junior double majoring in Biology and Chemistry and is ready to expand her experience in research. She is the Treasurer of the Society for the Advancement of Chicano/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) here at NAU, and is very interested in materials science and furthering her expertise in biomaterials.
